Javier started his career as a journalist, writing from Belfast for a Spanish daily. He soon realised that it was going to be difficult to pay his student loan out of writing and moved to London, where he started his banking career in the City. He worked for BBVA, Bank ABC  and HSBC, in the fields of Project, Export and Trade Finance, before deciding to give a second go to journalism.

He then spent a year and a half travelling around Asia and Latin America, writing as a freelance for different newspapers until he accepted that, in the digital era, a traditional job as a correspondent was a thing of the past. Africa was the only large continent he was missing, and he spent another year and a half learning about microfinance and discovering different African countries. During the past five years, Javier has successfully identified opportunities for investors and has helped European companies to grow overseas.
